Germain Dermatology Adds Renowned Dermatopathologist to Practice

MT. PLEASANT, SC - September 14, 2012 - Germain Dermatology announces the addition of internationally known, board-certified dermatopathologist Kathleen J. Smith to its staff. Dr. Smith is now seeing patients at Germain Dermatology, 612 Seacoast Parkway in Mount Pleasant, with a special focus on the diagnosis and treatment of advanced diseases of the human skin including acne, hair loss, eczema, psoriasis, blistering skin disorders and other diagnoses.
With more than 20 years of active military service as a U.S. Army physician, Dr. Smith is also board certified in dermatological immunology and diagnostic and laboratory immunology. Her expertise in these areas have allowed her to write more than 200 scientific articles in prestigious medical journals and prepare and deliver more than 250 formal presentations. Dr. Smith earned her medical degree from the Carver College of Medicine at University of Iowa. She completed a three-year residency in dermatology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, DC and then completed two one-year fellowships; one in dermatopathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, DC and the other in immunodermatology at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, Silver Spring, MD.
Dr. Smith is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society of Dermatopathology and the Society for Investigative Dermatology.
