Regimental Band and Pipes to present “A Concert for the Community”
CHARLESTON, SC - April 20, 2010 - The Citadel Regimental Band and Pipes 2010 spring show for the greater Charleston community will give concert goers a taste of what the world will hear this summer in Edinburgh, Scotland.
The band and pipes will be the only U.S. band attending the Aug. 6-28 Diamond Jubilee of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, a month-long nightly festival of music, pageantry and demonstrations by military organizations from around the world. This is the second time The Citadel has received a prestigious invitation to the international festival, the largest of its kind in the world.
“A Concert for the Community” begins at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 20 in
McAlister Field House. It is free and open to the public.
Known primarily for military honors and marches, this year the
Regimental Band will perform traditional concert band music as well
patriotic music. The 2010 concert also will feature an extended
performance of traditional Scottish music by the Regimental Pipe Band.
The concert is dedicated to band supporters over the years and those who
have helped make the trip to Scotland possible. While a free show,
donations are welcome and will help defray the costs of the trip.

the Band and Pipes and its reputation,” said Cmdr. Mike Alverson, USN
(Ret), director of music. “What an honor to receive a second invitation
to the Edinburgh Tattoo to represent our school and our country. We
will perform live in front of more than 217,000 people and be seen
worldwide on BBC television by more than 100 million people and we can’t
wait to make you all proud.”
